Project 2 Stage 01: Research & Ideation
Vampire
Vampires are undead creatures that feed on the blood of humans to continue their existence. They also have sharp fangs to help them pierce the skin of their victims and suck their blood. Vampires have immortal lifespans and their outer appearances look the same as when they first turned into a vampire. In addition, vampires can shapeshift into a swarm of bats to attack their victims or to travel short distances. The supernatural abilities of vampires make them almost invincible, invulnerable to harm from all but a select few weapons. One of their abilities is Glamour, which is a form of mental compulsion similar to hypnosis. Being technically deceased, vampires can be noticed by their lack of body heat and heartbeat. They do not require oxygen, water, or food like living organisms.
Problems
1. What supernatural abilities do vampires have?
- Super strength - Vampires can easily lift and throw extremely heavy objects and hurt people with their bare hands without any effort.
- Superspeed - Vampires can move faster than the human eyes can track.
- High agility - Vampires can jump from building to building and climb on walls very quickly.
- High durability - Vampires are unaffected by normal weapons, including blades and firearms. They are immune to poison and the cold and do not feel pain.
- Regeneration - Vampires can regenerate and heal from most fatal wounds. They can even heal almost instantly if they are fed with blood.
- Superhuman senses - Vampires have excellent senses of smell, sight, hearing and touch. They also have good night vision, allowing them to observe their surroundings clearly and hunt in the dark.
- Glamour - Vampires use this ability to influence the minds of humans and control their actions, thoughts, and even memories. It is most effective when the victim is mentally unstable and weak-minded.
- Shapeshifting - Vampires can fly as a swarm of bats, mist or small bats. When transformed, their clothing and anything in their physical possession will also dematerialise with them. Some of the oldest and strongest vampires can defeat entire armies with this ability.
2. What are the weaknesses of vampires?
- Silver - Can burn a vampire's skin and cause great pain. It could also kill vampires if done correctly.
- Garlic - The scent and taste of garlic are repulsive to vampires.
- Sunlight/Ultraviolet rays - Vampires are extremely sensitive to the sun/UV rays and can get burnt if any part of their body is under direct contact with it.
- Sacred items - Vampires do not like holy items such as crucifixes and holy water because they can burn their skin.
3. What are the ways to kill a vampire?
- Wooden stake - Stab a wooden stake through the heart of a vampire.
- Sunlight/Ultraviolet rays - Vampires would burst into flames if they are completely exposed to direct sunlight or UV rays. The sunlight and UV rays have to almost entirely cover the vampire to kill them, if not, they can escape with injuries.
- Fire - Setting an entire vampire on fire would have almost the same effect as sunlight.
- Holy water - Water that has been blessed will burn a vampire if it makes contact with one. A sufficient supply of holy water is needed to destroy a vampire entirely.
- Starvation - The vampires could become weak if they do not feed on blood and they could eventually die from starvation.
- Decapitation - Beheading is a difficult but effective way to kill a vampire.
4. How can a person avoid the influence of a vampire’s Glamour?
Glamouring can be avoided by avoiding eye contact with the vampire. People who are mentally stable and strong-willed are less likely to be affected by Glamour.
5. How to identify whether someone is a vampire?
- No reflections - Vampires and the clothes they currently wear can't be seen on reflective surfaces like mirrors, glass, or water.
- Sharp incisor teeth - A vampire’s fangs will elongate when they feel agitated, but still abnormally sharp when they are relaxed.
- Unusually cold skin - A vampire’s skin is slightly colder than the average human body temperature.
- Fascination with blood and the colour red - Vampires can be excited by the smell of blood. Red, which is the colour of blood, can stimulate a vampire’s appetite.
- Aversion to sunlight or bright surroundings - Exposure to sunlight can kill a vampire, but they are still sensitive to any form of light and would prefer to keep their surroundings dark.
- Harsh dislike towards the smell of garlic.
- Avoidance of sacred places and items - Vampires can feel immense pain when entering places such as churches, and their skin will burn when in contact with crucifixes and holy water.
6. What part of humans do vampires aim for when they feed?
Vampires would normally aim for the neck and wrist, which is where they can have easy access to the artery and the blood within.
7. How do humans become vampires?
A human can either become a vampire naturally under very specific circumstances, or by forceful transformation from another vampire. To achieve this, a single vampire must bite and feed on a human to the point of near-death, and then offer their own vampire blood to the dying human to drink. After a painful process, the newly transformed vampire, the Childe, will be under the mentorship or control of the vampire who transformed them, the Sire.
